Production and Consumption
Global oil production in 2008 amounted to approximately 81.8 million barrels per day which was only 0.4% higher than global production levels of 81.4 million barrels per day in 2007.
Global consumption of crude oil in 2008 was 84.8 million barrels per day, an increase of 0.6% from the 83.8 million barrels of oil production per day in 2007.

Global natural gas production in 2008 amounted to 3,065.6 billion cubic metres, capping ten years of consistent growth and 34.9% higher than the 2,273.0 billion cubic metres produced in 1998.
Global natural gas consumption continued the steady increases of the ten prior years reaching 3,018.7 billion cubic metres in 2008 which was 33% higher than the 2,268.2 billion cubic metres consumed globally in 1998. However, global natural gas consumption grew by only 2.5% in 2008, below the historical average.
